Description

Liposuction is a surgical technique that is used to remove excessive fat deposits in an area of the body, leaving only minimal scarring.

Liposuction is a technique that will help the patient to lose weight. Liposuction is also a useful tool in body sculpting for individuals who have tried to lose the excess fat in certain body areas by means of exercise and dieting.

The areas where liposuction can be beneficial are the hips, flanks, arms, thighs and tummy. It is also sometimes useful in reducing the size of the breasts.

The area to be treated is marked prior to the surgery and the procedure is carried out under a general anesthetic.

A diluted solution of local anesthetic is injected into the skin and small incisions (5 – 7mm in length) are made at inconspicuous locations around the area. A metal tube, called a cannula, is inserted into the tissues and the excess fat is suctioned out with the aid of a strong vacuum pump.
